JANE LAWALATA

Jane Lawalata is the first Indonesian woman director to come to America and successfully write and direct a feature film “Chatterbox The Movie” that has been distributed world-wide by Marvista Entertainment, a top LA-based film distributor. Jane has achieved what no other woman from “Indonesia” or “Southeast Asia” has been able to do because of a combination of talent, vision, experience and plain old intestinal fortitude. Where others saw a daunting and formidable task, Jane saw a unique opportunity. As a result, Jane’s success has opened the door to many other talented woman from that part of the world and from other countries to try and realize their dream : to become a successful film director in America.

 

She began her career at the prestigious Jakarta Institute Of Art and then began an extensive and varied career with top local TV stations RCTI, TRANS TV, and KABELVISION (Cable TV). She graduated from the Producing Program at the New York Film Academy’s LA campus and as her thesis project she wrote the treatment and script for what would become her triumphant entry into the world of commercial cinema: “Chatterbox The Movie”. 

In 2012 Jane work together with Nollywood Actress Stephanie Linus in a movie called "DRY". Made on location in Nigeria, Dry addresses the African stigma of underage brides and the epidemic of Medical issues that have resulted from this. Jane was the co producer and editor. This important film was released in 2014 and has been featured in several Film festivals garnering several awards.
